Delaware Summer Vacation Beach

Fenwick Island Vacation Town

Fenwick IslandFenwick Island is a town located in Sussex County, within the state of Delaware. The town had a total population of around 400. Fenwick Island, , can be a little crazier than Bethany because it is immediately across the state line from Ocean City, Maryland, which has a reputation as a wild place. Wild is an understatement.

Fenwick Island was named after Thomas Fenwick, a Englishman who settled in Maryland. Fenwick does not sit on an actual island. but rather a barrier island between Little Assawoman Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The town was an unincorporated area lying between South Bethany and Ocean City, Maryland until July 1953, when the Delaware General Assembly incorporate the town.

Fenwick is a great place. If you have the money I recommend renting a house with access to the private beach. These days the beach's are so crowed. There are great crab houses in Fenwick so definitely eat out a night or two. Fenwick is also an ok place to surf for beginners. I rented my first surf board last year and had a great time at the beach's in Fenwick. Parking is very competitive so make sure you get some kind of parking past where ever you stay.
