Bethany Beach Vacation Town
Bethany Beach is a beautiful town located in Sussex County, Delaware. The town has a year round population of around 1000 people. Many of the home owners are only around in the summer months. Bethany Beach, together with the towns of Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, South Bethany, and Fenwick Island, make up Delaware's beach resort areas. The town of Bethany was founded July 4th, 1901. Like Rehoboth, Ocean City, and Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach was founded by Christian evangelists as a site for summer camp. Bethany Beach's founding denomination was the Disciples of Christ, but today is home to churches of most Christian denominations, as well as many others.
South BethanySouth Bethany is an incorporated town located in
Sussex County, Delaware. The town has a total population of
around 500. South Bethany was formed as an unincorporated
entity in 1952 when a Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hall purchased
approximately 130 acres from the Delaware Shore Land Corporation
and named the development "South Bethany". South
Bethany is almost
exclusively residential.
South Behany can be expensive, but it is worth every dime. There are houses with private beaches, million dollar homes that sleep 30, as well as in-betweeners. It really is a great vacation destination. South Bethany has very few commercial areas. After a quiet day on the beach you can drive to Bethany Beach, Ocean City and other local resort areas for nightlife and shopping. The short travel time is a small price to pay when you will have access to all the sand and waves you could want.
